Tension settings

The Element 1230OL has four tension dials: blue left needle, green right needle, orange upper looper, and yellow lower looper. A higher number is tighter. The setting changes with the stitch. Adjust one dial at a time on scrap fabric.

Common problems

  • Skip stitches Fit a new ELx705 needle, size 80 or 90, flat side to the back, and seat it fully.
  • Wavy seams Differential feed runs from 0.7 to 2.0. Normal sewing is 1.0. Raise it between 1 and 2 for wavy seams on knits, or lower it toward 0.7 if lightweight fabric puckers, and support the fabric as it feeds.
  • Thread breaking Re-thread that path with the presser foot up, then ease its tension one number.
