Tension settings
The 4852 has color-coded tension dials: blue needle, green needle, pink upper looper, yellow lower looper, and violet cover stitch looper. The setting changes with the stitch. Fine-tune one dial at a time on scrap fabric.
Common problems
- Skip stitches Fit a new ELx705 needle, size 80 or 90, flat side to the back, and seat it fully.
- Wavy seams Differential feed runs from 0.5 to 2.0. Normal sewing is 1.0. Raise it toward 2.0 for wavy seams on knits, or lower it toward 0.5 if lightweight fabric puckers, and support the fabric as it feeds.
- Thread breaking Re-thread that path with the presser foot up, then ease its tension one number.
