Tension settings

The 488 has four tension dials: left needle, right needle, upper looper, and lower looper. Fine-tune one dial at a time on scrap fabric.

Common problems

  • Skip stitches Fit a new HAx1 (130/705H) needle, size 80 or 90, flat side to the back, and seat it fully.
  • Wavy seams Ease the needle or looper tension one number, and support the fabric as it feeds.
  • Thread breaking Re-thread that path with the presser foot up, then ease its tension one number.
