Brother 523N Overlocker Parts

This machine takes DBx1 needles (also called 16x231 or TEx1). Use size 11 for light fabric and size 14 for heavier fabric. New parts are below. Choose a foot, belt, bobbin or needle, then check out with PayPal or card.

Tension settings

Four dials: left needle, right needle, upper looper and lower looper. Turn one dial at a time on scrap fabric until the stitches meet at the fabric edge.

Common problems

  • Skip stitches Fit a new DBx1 needle, size 11 or 14, and seat it fully.
  • Wavy seams Ease the needle or looper tension one number, and support the fabric as it feeds.
  • Thread breaking Re-thread that path with the presser foot up, then ease its tension one number.
